Set up two-factor sign-in or a passkey on your account
Protect your own account with codes from an authenticator app, or sign in with a passkey such as Face ID, Touch ID or Windows Hello.
Steps
While signed in, open the two-factor page by adding /security to your ChessCore address. If you can change your academy’s security policy and have not set up two-factor yet, Settings, Security also shows a Set up two-factor button.
Under Two-factor authentication, enter your password under Confirm your password if asked, then select Set up two-factor.
At 1 · Scan or enter the secret, scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, 1Password or Authy. You can also type the secret in by hand.
At 2 · Save your recovery codes, select Copy next to the codes, keep them somewhere safe, and tick I’ve saved my recovery codes.
At 3 · Enter the 6-digit code, type the code from your app and select Verify & turn on. The button stays off until you tick the recovery codes box.
Next time you sign in, the Two-factor verification page asks for your Authenticator code. Enter it and select Verify.
To add a passkey, open Settings, then Security. Under Passkeys, type a Name (optional) and select Add passkey. Follow your device’s prompt.
To use it, select Sign in with a passkey on the sign-in page.
Good to know
- If you lose your phone, select Lost your authenticator? Use a recovery code on the verification page. Each recovery code works only once.
- To turn two-factor off, open the same page, confirm with your password or a code, select Turn off two-factor, then Disable two-factor.
- Passkeys work with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or a security key. You can remove a passkey with the remove button next to its name.
- Sign in with a passkey does not appear on a sign-in page that uses your academy’s own custom domain.
- The Security settings page, where passkeys live, needs security access, which owners and admins have by default. It also has Change password and Sign out other devices.
