Review a student’s game with Stockfish
Run Stockfish on a recorded game to see blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies, step through the flagged moves, and turn mistakes into training puzzles.
Steps
Make sure the game is in ChessCore. Open Games in the Chess group and use Record game, Import PGN file or Import from URL.
Open Analysis in the Chess group and select New analysis.
Choose the game under Game, then select Run engine analysis.
The analysis card shows its status: Not analysed, Analysing, Done or Error. When it is done, the card shows ACPL and the number of Blunders, Mistakes and Inaccuracies.
Select Review on a finished analysis. The Game review window shows the board, the move list, and Accuracy, Blunders, Mistakes and Best.
In the Learn from your mistakes box, select Jump to first to go to the first flagged move, then Next flagged to step through the rest.
On a flagged move, select Add to training to add it to the student’s practice. Add all adds every flagged move not yet added.
Good to know
- Lower ACPL is better. When the student’s colour is known, the card shows Student ACPL for the student’s side only.
- On a finished analysis, the Generate puzzles button (a puzzle icon) makes up to 5 puzzles from the game’s mistakes.
- Add a note saves a coach note on the game. Saving a note does not run the engine.
- If you edit a game’s moves, its earlier engine analysis is cleared and the game is analysed again.
- To have a student study a game at home, assign it as a PGN review.
