Assign homework and puzzles
Create an assignment for one student or a whole batch. Choose a written task, a game to review, an opening drill, a puzzle set from the library, or games against the computer.
Steps
Open Assignments in the Learning group of the sidebar.
Select New assignment.
Choose One student or Whole batch, then pick the Student or Batch.
Enter a Title and choose a Kind: Freeform, PGN review, Opening drill, Puzzle set or Sparring.
If you like, choose a coach in Coach (optional) and set a Due date (optional).
Fill in the task. Freeform needs a Prompt. PGN review needs a PGN pasted in. Opening drill needs the drill moves and the Side to drill. If you leave Start FEN empty, the drill starts from the normal starting position. Sparring needs the number of games (1 to 20) and the opponent level: Student’s level or A target level between 100 and 3000.
For a Puzzle set, use Pick puzzles from the library. Filter by Level (Any level, Right for this student, Beginner (about 800), Intermediate (about 1200), Advanced (about 1600)) and Theme, or search. Select Show board to preview a puzzle, then tick the ones you want.
Optionally add a Rubric (optional) with + Add criterion, and links, videos or files under Resources (optional) with + Add resource.
Select Create assignment.
Good to know
- Right for this student appears only when you assign to one student.
- You cannot assign to a batch that has no active students.
- To give one student a single position, open Puzzles in the Chess group and select Assign puzzle. Choose the student, paste the FEN position and add the answer. The engine checks the answer before the puzzle is saved.
- You can also create homework from a class summary with Convert to assignment, or make puzzles from a student’s own game mistakes on the Analysis page.
